Where we came from

Andrew moved to Smithers in 2017 to get away from the hustle and of the Greater Toronto Area. Shortly after moving to the Bulkley Valley he began pursuing his passion of finance by working as a bookkeeper. “Learning the ins and outs of small business finance was a huge eye opener.” He says, “So many small business owners are so focused on pursuing their passion in their trade, and getting the next job done. They don’t have the time to consider financial implications of scary phrases like ‘cash flow’, and ‘corporate taxes'”. Having heard about mortgage brokers through a friend, he thought it was a pretty interesting idea. He started suggesting to others that the best way to get a mortgage might be to shop around.

How we got here

“When my wife and I bought our house,” he admits ,”I thought I was pretty clever and made appointments at all the local banks. All I learned from those appointments was that most of the big banks offer the same rates and the same products.” He has learned that is because when you look at financing from your bank, they don’t share your loyalty. They have no reason to give you the best deal that they have. Shopping around themselves just led Andrew and his wife to get their first mortgage with the place they banked.

It was 5 years later, at the end of 2022 that he thought about becoming a mortgage broker himself. After a period of record low interest rates, the Bank of Canada began to raise its rates. It was when talking to friends who were looking at refinancing and hearing them say “How are we supposed to make this work? Where are we supposed to come up with a few hundred extra dollars every month?”that made him decide that he should look into doing this mortgage brokering stuff himself. Bringing his experience with finances with him, he started down of path of brokering.

Why we stay here.

Helping families afford their homes is his passion. Walking business owners through the process of getting financing, even when the banks won’t consider them. Helping people determine if the rental home will be a financial freedom dream or a nightmare. These are all challenges Andrew is more than willing to rise to.

“Taking complex terms, breaking them down, and putting them in simple language is what I have done for years.” Andrew say, “I need to teach you the best way to apply that new knowledge in a practical way. If you walk away confused and unsure, I haven’t done my job.”
